Through its involvement with the government, local people and communities, planners, donors, and other stakeholders, HCG plans to identify and prioritize Himalaya conservation issues with respect to disaster and climate change risks. Analysis of potential adversaries of the Himalaya conservation issues up to community level and investigation of the mitigation approaches to the associated risk also fall under the HCG plan. Moreover, it plans to put efforts in helping local communities build their capacities to restore their livelihoods after disasters. With these plans, HCG  sets its objectives as follows.

To study, analyse and advocate the Himalaya conservation issues.

To function as a leading knowledge centre for disaster and climate change risk reduction in the Himalaya region.

To promote, practice and advocate new scientific research findings on the Himalaya conservation science and technology.

To promote and advocate sustainable livelihood options to mitigate and adopt the impact of anti-conservation issues in the Himalaya region due to disaster and climate change risks.

To promote and apply implementation-oriented world-wide research findings related to the Himalaya conservation in direct coordination with the respective national and international researchers.

To support disaster affected natural/cultural heritage sites for sustainable recovery along with livelihood development programs for the communities in and around the area/s of conservation.

To build a network of individuals and organizations that have been working in any way to conserve the environment and beauty of the Himalayan mountains.

To raise people’ awareness in mountain environment and its importance in tourism development and economic sustainability in Nepal and the Himalayan region.

 To advise national and local governments, donors and line agencies as a leading think-tank institute for promoting Himalaya conservation issues and sustainable development practices in the Himalayan nations.
